Ceiling Fan Blades |
Many people enjoy the look and feel of a ceiling fan in their home and like
the fact that it matches their decor. However, a second reason that people
purchase ceiling fans is because a ceiling fan can save a large amount on an
air conditioning bill by keeping air circulation and making the air temperature
feel cooler than it actually is during the hot summer months. One of the most
crucial items in the performance of a ceiling fan is the way that the blades
work. This article will explore several facotrs that affect the efficency of
a ceiling fan and how the blades can affect the performance and the overall
cost savings derrived from a ceiling fan.
One important factor in ceiling fans is the size of the blades. The blades
are the portion of the ceiling fan that spin around and around curculating
cool air around the house or dwelling. The key to the blades is that the
surface area of the blades should be large enough so that it is able to move
enough air. If the blades are too narrow, or are not long enought the fan
will not circulate as much air as it could have circulated if the blades were
bigger. Generally you don't want the blades to be two big, but as a general
rule, fans with short, skinny plades do not circulate as much air.
Another factor affecting the performance of ceiling fans is the speed of the
motor. The motor needs to be powerful enough to spin the blades at a
significant speed in order produce the necessary air flow. The motor is the
force behind the blades. Moreover, the motor must be set up to spin the blades
quite quickly in order to obtain the best air flow. Mowever, the speed of the
motor will not make any difference to the performance of the cieling fan if
other factors are not set up properly.
Another important factor is the legnth of the circumference of the circle is
that the end of the blades form when they are speeding. This is often
refferred to as a fan's "Sweep." When coupled with motor speed, this allows
the fan to pull in more air and to circulate more air out of the fan. The
sweep is obviously related to the legnth of the fan's blades.
The other factor that is quite important in maintaining the performance of a
ceiling fan is the angle at which the fan's blades are tilted. In order for
the fan to move air, the blades need to be tilted so that they obtain so
degree of wind resitance to allow the air to circulate downwards. If the
blades were straight, little air would be moved and it would not blow down
very well. The fan's blades should be adjusted so that they are at exactly
the right angle. If you are installing then, make sure that you follow the
instructions.
Clearly, it makes sense to pay attention to all of these factors when
selecting a ceiling fan so that you will be able to purchase a ceiling fan
and obtain the maximum amount of air movement as possible. This will
translate into real cost savings when you install the ceiling fan in your
house.
